Confirmation at United Lutheran

What is confirmation?

Confirmation is often referred to as an Affirmation of Baptism, which is a more descriptive name for what we’re doing.  It's an opportunity for people to affirm for themselves the promises that their parents, sponsors and congregation made for them at their baptism. At baptism, parents make this promise: “… to live with them among God’s faithful people, bring them to the word of God and the holy supper, teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed and the Ten Commandments, place in their hands the holy Scriptures, and nurture them in faith and prayer, so that your children may learn to trust God, proclaim Christ through word and deed, care for others and the world God made, and work for justice and peace.”

Through education classes taken from 6th to 10th grade, our youth have the opportunity to learn what it means to be Lutheran, dive deeper into scripture, given opportunities to serve our neighbors and the church, and to partner with a church mentor for intentional faith conversation.  Our goal is to nurture and equip the faith of our young people to go into the world and boldly live in God's grace.

Confirmation is held from September through May for students in 6th through 9th grade with those beginning 10th grade being confirmed in October. Confirmation meets Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
