Book Study on "Everything Happens for a Reason and Other Lies I've Loved" by Kate Bowler
9am Sunday Mornings in the Lounge
“Everything Happens for a reason and other lies I’ve Loved” by Kate Bowler will be the book we will be reading and discussing during our Adult Education Hour at 9am each Sunday morning in the lounge in September and October.
Kate bowler, a professor at Duke Divinity school specializing in the prosperity gospel, was living a “blessed” life. At thirty-five, she had a great job, a loving husband, and a new baby. Then she is diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. Forced to reckon with her own mortality, she faces the limits of the prosperity gospel and the can-do spirit it celebrates. Is illness a moral failure? What does it mean to die in a society that insists everything happens for a reason?
Kate Bowler’s book is a fascinating, sometimes funny, sometimes heart-breaking look at religion, death, and faith in the face of struggle. It is an outstanding read and you will want you pick up your copy in the office.
The women member are each given membership in the United Lutheran Church Women. Come and enjoy our excellent programs and the wonderful circle Bible Studies with great fellowship.
