Youth Education at United Lutheran Church

United Lutheran’s Christian Education Program is planned by the Spiritual Formation Ministry. The mission of Spiritual Formation is to equip the members of United Lutheran Church to know, tell and be the story of Jesus Christ, and provide resources to challenge ourselves, families, friends, and neighbors in spiritual growth. The Spiritual Formation Ministry is responsible for education for all ages and supports the work of the pastors, and church school coordinator. If you have questions about the Christian Education program at United, please contact Karen Syrstad, our Church School Coordinator.

There are two opportunities for children to attend education classes at United Lutheran from September through May.

Sunday School is held Sunday mornings from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. and Faith Friends is held Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Children can attend Sunday School or Faith Friends or some even attend both!

AGE REQUIREMENTS:

Sunday School/Faith Friends is for children 3 years old (by September 1) through 5th Grade.

CURRICULUM:

This year we are going to use Frolic Preschool lessons.  Each Frolic Preschool lesson follows the same plan, with time for gathering,      playing, songs and stories, and send time. More than half the lesson is focused on play—allowing them to engage with a creative play space to experience the faith lesson the way that they know best (and create materials to share at home!).

Kindergarten-Grade 5 Sunday School/Faith Friends:  This year we will continue using the rotation method where we engage in the Bible story with interactive workshops that feature activities, games and creative crafts.

FAITH MILESTONES:

The focus of Faith Milestones is to take meaningful, memorable moments (i.e., baptism, getting a Bible, first communion, etc.) and makes them all part of a lifelong journey of faith. At United Lutheran the Faith Milestones are:

  • Preschool-Kindergarten receive a Storybook Bible

  • Grades 1-2 learn about worship

  • Grade 3 receives a new Bible

  • Grade 5 learns about first communion and takes communion for the first time

All of these milestones have a special event planned throughout the year.

Confirmation

Confirmation is held from September through May for students in Grades 6 through 9th grade with those beginning 10th grade being confirmed in October. Confirmation meets Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
