Habitat for Humanity

Thrivent Builds

Pictures from the wall raising ceremony held on June 2nd. Thanks to Lyla Jane Nelson for sharing the pictures.

Picture of the completed duplex

Construction began on the duplex on June 2nd and the volunteer effort was completed on June 18th (One day ahead of schedule)! A quote from Libby Kathman, an affiliate manager: "As long as I've been with Habitat, I don't think we've done anything this fast." (Grand Forks Herald 6/16/08 issue)

Congratulations to all on this success!

Congratulations to United Lutheran Church members for their highly successful participation in building a

"Thrivent Builds" Habitat for Humanity home. We were assigned a goal of $1200 but actually raised and

contributed more than $4000 through a series of events that included Miracle May envelopes, the M&M

quarters project, the 2X4 Sale, and Sink Sunday.

United members also participated as construction workers. More than 30 individuals signed up to provide labor at the building site. In addition, members of three circles volunteered to bring in noon meals and snacks (morning and afternoon) for United's builders.

Special thanks go to Harold Vold for organizing United's share of the fundraising, Marv Moen (and Physical Property Ministry) for coordinating labor, and Crystal Engel for organizational management and record-keeping. Thank you to Ginny Bollman for the poster board displays, Gary Larson for assisting with displays, and Richard McGurran and Crystal Engel for loaning sinks.  Thank you to all of you who donated offerings, labor, food, or other support for this project -- thank you from Outreach and Wellness!

Ministry Matters

Do you have a gifts to share but find your time limited? Well, you are not alone. In today's busy world, many of us find our lives filled with work and family obligations. Yet, God's voice remains present in the midst of our hectic lives. We feel called to serve, but how?

Ministry Matters will post opportunities to serve your congregation or community through a variety of one-time or short-term volunteer possibilities.

Examples of opportunities may include:

  • Showing the DVD of our Sunday Church Service to residents at Valley Eldercare
  • Assisting with local Habitat for Humanity projects
  • Helping out at our local Food Cupboard
  • Helping with a youth or Sunday school event

For a list of the current opportunities available to you, just click on Ministry Matters.
